My Dearest Señorita
The brief
González Molina takes what could have been a heavy-handed identity drama and instead crafts something surprisingly gentle, letting Elisabeth Martínez's naturalistic performance as Adela carry the emotional weight without ever pushing too hard. The film moves at a deliberate, almost meditative pace through small-town Spanish life before opening up into something more expansive as Adela's world grows beyond her family's antique shop. Anna Castillo brings warmth to every scene she's in, and the supporting cast feels lived-in rather than constructed. This is for anyone who appreciated the quiet character work in films like The Secrets We Keep or Summer 1993, where personal discovery unfolds through small moments rather than big dramatic beats.
The verdict
If you appreciate quiet character studies that unfold through small moments and naturalistic performances, this gentle exploration of personal discovery in small-town Spain will reward your patience. If you need dramatic plot developments or faster pacing to stay engaged, the film's meditative 113-minute runtime will likely test your endurance.

Official synopsis
Adela, a solitary only child from a conservative family, spends her days between the family antique shop and the catechism classes she teaches, marked by her mother’s protectiveness and the silence surrounding her intersex condition, which she is unaware of but which shapes her life. An unexpected and beautiful friendship with a newly arrived priest, the return of a close childhood friend, and the arrival of a woman, Isabel, trigger a chain reaction that takes Adela on a journey of self-discovery, from Pamplona to Madrid, where her identity will need the love and support of others in order to be revealed.
