Shake, Rattle & Roll Evil Origins
Three-part horror anthology spanning centuries of Philippine supernatural terror and folklore
The brief
Shugo Praico's ambitious horror anthology sprawls across three centuries of Philippine supernatural terror, jumping from colonial nuns battling ancient evil to modern slasher chaos to aswang-ruled apocalypse. At nearly two and a half hours, it's an endurance test that rewards patient viewers with genuinely unsettling atmosphere and some wild creature design, though the middle Halloween segment drags compared to the stronger bookends. The cast commits fully to the escalating madness, with Carla Abellana particularly effective as she anchors the historical timeline with conviction. Perfect for fans of sprawling genre epics like The Wailing or anyone craving Filipino folklore horror that doesn't hold back on the supernatural carnage.
The verdict
If you're a horror enthusiast who appreciates ambitious folklore-based scares and can handle nearly two and a half hours of supernatural carnage across three centuries, this is a rewarding dive into genuinely unsettling Philippine mythology. If you prefer tight, focused horror or get restless during lengthy runtimes, the uneven pacing and marathon length will test your patience more than the scares will thrill you.
