The Pout-Pout Fish
The brief
This underwater buddy comedy leans hard into the manic energy of its sea dragon sidekick, with Nick Offerman's grumpy fish perfectly balancing the chaos as straight man to the whirlwind around him. Director Ricard Cussó keeps the pacing brisk and the visual gags flowing, turning what could have been another generic quest story into something that feels genuinely frantic and fun. The animation has a pleasantly tactile, almost handmade quality that makes the junkyard aesthetic of their world feel lived-in rather than polished. Perfect for parents who enjoyed the Paddington films or anyone who wants their kids' movies to have actual personality instead of corporate focus-group blandness.
The verdict
If you're a parent who craves kids' movies with genuine personality and frantic energy (think Paddington's charm meets underwater chaos), this handmade-feeling animation delivers exactly the kind of manic buddy comedy that works for both generations. If you prefer your family films calm and predictable, Nick Offerman's grumpy fish and his hyperactive sea dragon sidekick will probably exhaust you within the first 20 minutes.
