The Sin Trade
The brief
Cheng Siyi delivers a relentlessly gritty action thriller that doesn't pull punches about its ugly subject matter, following Ashton Chen's determined cop as he infiltrates a human trafficking ring in rural China. The film moves at a breakneck pace once Chen goes undercover, building tension through claustrophobic village scenes before exploding into brutal, well-choreographed fight sequences that feel more like survival horror than typical action fare. Chen anchors the whole thing with a performance that's equal parts righteous fury and barely contained desperation, making every punch and gunshot feel personal. Perfect for fans of hard-edged crime thrillers like "The Raid" or "Drug War" who want their action movies to leave bruises.
The verdict
If you crave brutal, no-holds-barred action thrillers that tackle serious subject matter with raw intensity, this is a punishing ride that delivers both bone-crushing fights and genuine emotional stakes. If you prefer lighter entertainment or can't handle graphic depictions of human trafficking, skip this one for something that won't leave you emotionally battered.
