The brief

Bill Condon brings surprisingly elegant direction to what could have been pure melodrama, turning Bella and Edward's wedding and honeymoon into something that actually feels romantic rather than creepy. The film splits cleanly between gorgeous, almost fairy-tale wedding sequences and increasingly tense supernatural horror as the pregnancy subplot kicks in. Stewart finally finds her footing as Bella, delivering her most confident performance of the series, while the practical effects work gets genuinely unsettling in the final act. Perfect for Twilight completists and anyone who found the earlier films too campy but still wants that gothic romance atmosphere.

The verdict

If you're a Twilight fan or enjoy gothic romance with surprisingly elegant direction that elevates the material beyond pure melodrama, this delivers the series' most confident filmmaking and genuinely romantic wedding sequences. If you're not already invested in the characters or have little tolerance for supernatural pregnancy horror that gets increasingly unsettling, the low critical scores reflect that this remains very much for the converted.
