Untitled Home Invasion Romance
The brief
Jason Biggs directing himself in a comedy about faking a home invasion to spice up his marriage is exactly as awkward and cringe-inducing as it sounds. The premise has potential for dark laughs, but Biggs leans too heavily into his bumbling everyman shtick while the script never finds its tonal footing between relationship drama and physical comedy. Meaghan Rath does her best to ground the increasingly ridiculous situations, but even her sharp timing can't save the film's second half descent into pure farce. If you thought American Pie's later sequels were a good idea and enjoy watching people make spectacularly bad decisions for 85 minutes, this might work for you.
The verdict
If you have a high tolerance for cringe comedy and enjoy watching Jason Biggs lean into his most awkward impulses, this delivers exactly the kind of spectacularly misguided farce you'd expect from the premise. If you prefer your comedies with tonal consistency or can't stomach 85 minutes of secondhand embarrassment from increasingly bad marital decisions, skip this mess entirely.
