Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos
The brief
Vir Das directs himself as a bumbling British-Indian spy who's hilariously out of his depth, turning what could have been another forgettable Bollywood comedy into something that actually lands its jokes. The fish-out-of-water setup gives Das room to play with cultural identity while keeping the energy bouncing between slapstick mishaps and genuine charm. At just over two hours it occasionally meanders, but the supporting cast, especially Mona Singh, keeps things grounded when the chaos threatens to spin out. Perfect for fans of Johnny English or anyone who enjoyed Das's stand-up specials and wants to see him stretch into feature filmmaking.
The verdict
If you're a fan of Vir Das's comedy style or enjoy goofy spy parodies like Johnny English, this delivers genuine laughs and cultural wit with surprising charm. If you're impatient with meandering comedies or prefer tighter pacing over slapstick chaos, the two-hour runtime will test your tolerance.
